TCL 6-Series Roku TV R635 review in 2022

TCL 6-SERIES ROKU TV (R635)

The 6-Series TCL Roku TV R635 is the most powerful TV you can buy for less than $1000. It is among the most affordable on the market for TVs. It is superior to more expensive models when it comes to image high-quality and HDR performance because of its QLED colors, and mini-LED illumination combination. Due to the shortage of supplies, price increases have been significant, and, as a result, the previous model of $899 for a 65-inch is now priced at $999. It's worth keeping an eye on prices to see if they drop again. If your budget is not a lot, you can buy the 55-inch model for under $700. Its THX-certified Game Mode on the TCL 6-Series combines the newest gaming technologies, like variable refresh rates and auto low-latency mode, along with stunning colors and low lag times for a stunning gaming TV. The TCL 6-Series R635 is by far the most powerful TV you can get at less than $1,000, and it's near. It comes with clever design features such as cable management on the stand and a consistently stable Roku TV platform.

6 Series TCL Roku TV (R635): Prices and Availability

The 6-Series TCL Roku TV (R635) is available in various sizes, from 55-75 in. This review is focused on the 55-inch model, but our observations and test results will be the same across all sizes in the range.

The only difference between the models is the quantity of backlights with mini-LEDs. The 55-inch model we tested has 128 backlighting zones comprising hundreds of mini-LED light sources. The models with 65 and 75 inches provide up to 240 zones and as many as 1,000 mini-LEDs, because of the more significant dimensions of the screens.

With these small differences between the various sizes of screens, We're sure that our suggestions on the 55-inch version apply equally to the set's 65 - and 75-inch models.

In the same way that most TV manufacturers launched new TVs in 2021, TCL will continue to offer the R635 model as the most popular 4K TV for 2022. However, the 6-Series will be upgraded, featuring two 8K TVs.

6 Series TCL Roku TV (R635): Design

It's TCL 6-Series is relatively slim, measures 2.8 inches at its highest point, and shrinks to only 1 inch around the outer bezel. The style is somewhat boxy. However, it's in line with previous TCL designs. It effectively highlights the display, using an elongated frame and a chassis covered with what appears to be brushed metal.

The sets back extend just a little to house the different TV components and speakers. However, it can still be mounted on the wall with no issues using a 300mm-by-300mm VESA mount.

The top part of the rear frame has a glossy, smooth look. If you want to place the TV in the center of your room instead of facing the wall, the rear side of the TV isn't your typical dull television.

The stand included with the television is made up of two feet connecting at either one of its ends. They are easy to attach, and the style is attractive because the brackets can be easily identified and fit into suitable locations, meaning there's no mistakenly attaching the left foot to the left side of the set and oppositely. In 2020, there will be the inclusion of cable management into the feet, including the ability to attach clips for power cords as well as other cords that are built-in.

The 6-Series of TCL Roku TV (R635): Performance

The 55" TCL 6-Series has a big bright and bright 4K screen featuring QLED technology that enhances the brightness and colors and 120 Hz of refresh rate, providing smooth action for whatever content you want to stream.

The color quality was vibrant and vivid, with life-like birds' wings and lush vegetation as I watched the scenes of Our Planet, Netflix's 4K nature documentary series. There was some slight streaking when the color transitions, such as a bright blue sky, were particularly subtle. However, shifts in tone caused slightly circular circles of color when sunlight changed between green and blue.

The backlight performance of the TCL 6-Series is outstanding, and the set's numerous distinct dimming zones are doing impressive work of offering high-contrast dark and light with little halos.

The TCL 6-Series proved equally adept with bright colors when it was used in the trailer 4K of Wonder Woman 1984. A sun-soaked stage adorned with Amazons and an inflected 1980s Times Square filled with bright signage and video billboards were stunning with vibrant yellows, reds, and greens. In normal mode, reds and blues appeared slightly oversaturated. However, changing to movie mode fixed many small color issues we noticed on display.

Highlights like glittering gold Armor or jets firing out of the dark airfield appear stunning, as does the HDR performance of the set is among the top I've seen on a non-OLED television. It supports Dolby Vision, as well as HDR10 standards as well as HLG. All films will look stunning.

Although this TCL 6-Series faces the same issues as other LCDs, the display's QLED panel with mini-LED backlight eliminates some of the issues we anticipated. We didn't see any shadows on the edges or areas around the edges of the screen, and the consistency of the backlight across the entire display appears flawless.

The angles for viewing are also tremendous and comprehensive, with just the tiniest shade of color changing when viewing at 45 degrees. This makes it an excellent television for watching movies or the big game, as anyone seated to the side of the best viewing position can enjoy everything with complete clarity and precise color.

Conclusion

The 6-Series TCL Roku TV R635 is great for video games. It has a fantastic response time that results in minimal blurring and the strobing backlight feature that can make motion appear more realistic. It's got a very low input lag. However, it's more than other TVs and doesn't come with HDMI 2.1 inputs. It's an excellent TV for gaming in dark rooms due to its high contrast ratio. On the other hand, the local dimming feature is not great as it can cause blooming.
